Location: Designated Americas Job Center of California (AJCC) Office (Glendale) and GLAD LA Office

Classification: Non-exempt, 100% FTE


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Under the supervision of the Deputy Director, the Placement Specialist:

  1. Provides employment services to deaf and hard of hearing people.
  2. Provides support services and sensitivity training to GLAD Employment Services (ES) staff and employers.
  3. Manages client recruitment, assessment, counseling, job development, referral to training programs.
  4. Handles negotiation and monitoring of training contracts, job placement and follow up contacts with clients and employers after placement.
  5. Works closely with Job Connection Interpreter.
  6. Is responsible for approval of timesheets for Job Connection Interpreter.
  7. Supervises and evaluates the Job Connection Interpreter.
  8. Reports to Deputy Director on operations and activities on a regular basis.
  9. Prepares weekly reports.
  10. Performs such tasks and responsibilities as may be delegated.



QUALIFICATIONS:


  1. Bachelors degree is required.
  2. Fluency in American Sign Language is required.
  3. Previous experience in provision of job development services to unskilled and highly skilled deaf and hard of hearing people is required.
  4. Must possess the ability to relate and be sensitive to deaf people with varied communication skills and language levels, and be able to work with a diverse, multi-ethnic population.
  5. Demonstrated efficiency with Microsoft Office programs required.
  6. Be detail-oriented with strong organizational and written communication skills. Must prioritize and handle multiple tasks, sometimes with competing deadlines.
  7. Must maintain the highest level of confidentiality. Demonstrated ability to perform professionally. Punctuality and reliability are a must.
  8. Excellent interpersonal skills are required. Must maintain a cooperative relationship with co-employees, directors, employers, outside vendors, and the CEO.
  9. As business needs require, employees schedule may be adjusted to ensure coverage for Deaf Expos and other deaf outreach events that occur on weekends.
  10. Must have reliable transportation and maintain up-to-date auto insurance.

The Greater Los Angeles Agency on Deafness is a private non-profit organization that was founded in 1969 and now has 13 locations serving 10 counties in Southern California.
